Does the Carbon Fiber One-Piece Driveshaft Deliver as Advertised?
With the new carbon fiber Driveshaft installed, it was now time for a road test.
I pulled my STI out on the road and rolled into the throttle in first gear, and the turbo spool seems instantaneous. My heart began to beat faster, the tach needle raced, the red light in the tachometer ignited, and I heard the audible “beep, beep, beep” muffled by the roar of the engine; 7,000 RPM already?
I instinctly grabbed second visiously fast, too late! My STi had hit the Rev-limiter faster than I could imagine. Pressing the throttle further, my heart raced with the turbo engine. Blinking red light again? I immediately grabbed third, had I hit the Rev-limiter? Impossible! With the Go pedal pressed to the floor, I prepped for the three/four up-shift, the needle fired past 6,800, So I grabbed fourth, and the STi rocketed forward violently. The acceleration was phenomenal! I was grinning from ear to ear. Absolutely awesome! I quickly applied the omnipotent Brembos to haul me down without incident.
The acceleration was intoxicating - Wow - The STi’s 2.5 boxer turbo now bolted to it’s redline without any hesitation. I could not believe how quickly the car accelerated and how fast it could reach redline.
The car now bounces off the Rev-limiter in each gear like a Honda V-Tec, preparing to launch at “Battle of the Imports”.
TheVerdict:
With the dampening characteristics of the carbon fiber Driveshaft, I now have confidence in the STi’s powerful boxer engines RPM limits. The car no longer feels like it looses power in the high RPM.
I could feel the enormous acceleration improvement both at takeoff and through each gear; even when the car is cruising on the highway in sixth gear. The throttle is more responsive to every input that your right foot can muster. Plus, the STi feels like it has picked up more horsepower and torque across the entire RPM range.
This carbon fiber Driveshaft offers an extremely noticeable improvement in the cars performance. My STi is now more athletic, powerful, responsive, eager and lighter than before.
Selecting each gear feels smoother, more accurate and more positive with this one-piece carbon fiber unit. Rolling through the gears is not a chore, but an absolute joy This carbon fiber Driveshaft will bring out the sports car hidden within the STi sedan. It is a natural modification to the STi as it compliments many of the STi’s abilities and makes them better.
The car behaves like stock, only faster and much more enjoyable.
Not only will the Driveshaft please your desires for speed, it will also please the environment, for the one-piece carbon fiber Driveshaft has improved my gas mileage by 2MPG on the average.

ACPT always strives to exceed customer's expectations. We had an advantage with the STi driveshaft development project because one of our employees (Driveshaft Product Manager) owns a 2005 STi and he was the guinea pig for development. He noticed the same performance gains you did, but also one more you didn't mention. The car stops (decelerates) much quicker when downshifting, perhaps anothe safety feature worth mentioning. Thanks for the good review!

I only wonder what the light ones would gain you also would the 500 dollar unit be the better trade off.

My STI eagerly recieved one of the first units and has yet to be damaged even with repeated abuse, Such as the dccd set 80 rear with 400 wheel horsepower

Very interesting and informative article. Normally, I would not have thought about replacing the driveshaft as one of my modifications, but you make some great points. There is a lot of HP that is lost from the engine to the wheels and anything we can do to "put the power to the wheels" is a wicked awesome mod in my book.

I have actually recently purchased a composite shaft from CTG TORQline in the UK. I can quote that no modifications were required to the floorboard of the vehicle.
The propshaft looks great and and can definately notice some performance increases, throttle response and decelleration seem much better.
These guys are involved with many of the top end GT teams around the world. I reckon the part will whandle my mere 500bhp no problem!

Great write up, I always wondered if replacing the driveshaft would be worth it. Sounds like a lighter driveshaft is the way to go!
